Healthy Eating Is Important

Acupuncture Helps Reduce High FSH

FSH = Follicle Stimulation Hormone
POF = Premature Ovarian Failure

The FSH level can be checked on the third day of the menstrual cycle.  Most doctors that I have worked with like to see the FSH no higher than 8.  However, I have seen many women become pregnant, and have happy healthy babies, who have a much higher level.

FSH is a good indicator of the chance of conceiving.  But, FSH should not be the factor that determines whether or not a women will be able to conceive.  Women often come into Ancient Arts feeling hopeless about their chances of conceiving.   But, it does not mean it is impossible.  It does not mean you will have to have intensive hormone therapy, donor eggs, or adoption.  It means that you have a lot of work to do to prepare your body for conceiving.  Together we have to learn to believe, follow a healthy program to prepare the body for pregnancy.

Acupuncture improves the blood flow allowing better circulation to the ovaries, allows the quality of eggs to improve. Acupuncture improves the hormone levels and reduces stress.

Eating healthy improves over all health.  Exercise improves overall health.  Maintaining a healthy weight improves overall health.  At Ancient Arts I teach women how to bring their body back to the best it can be.

Now many women are becoming pregnant who at one time thought it may not be possible.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder affecting 5% to 10% of reproductive age women. PCOS was recognized in 1935 by Stein and Leventhol. PCOS is characterized by high levels of androgens (male hormones such as testosterone) from the ovary and is associated with insulin resistance. Tiny cysts, hence, "poly cysts", usually but not always, surround the ovaries appearing upon and ultrasound as a strand of pearls. The cysts are actually a result of hormonal imbalances not the cause of them

If you have been diagnosed with PCOS you may notice:
1. excessive hair growth on the face and body (hisrutism)
2. hair loss from the head (alopecia)
3. acne and/or skin problems
4. irregular or absent periods

Many women with PCOS are insulin resistant, and will gain weight in the abdominal area. They may notice difficulties losing weight, intense cravings for carbohydrates, and possible hypoglycemic episodes.

Wondering if you have PCOS?

It is possible if you experience several of the following:

1. A family history of PCOS (especially mother, sister, or grandmother)

2. Excessive abdominal weight (greater than 35 inches)
